Back pain Physiotherapy in Kotara, Newcastle

Helping active people understand their back pain and return to moving and exercising with confidence, through goal-based physiotherapy tailored to you.

Back pain holding you back?

If you are suffering from back pain, then you know just how limiting it can be. Pain itself, or even the fear of pain, can lead to avoiding movement, activity and exercise which can often lead to a snowball effect of avoidance and pain.

We often see people who are restricted with exercise and in the gym- unsure what is going to help their back and what’s going to flare-up their pain, lost confidence in their capacity to play with their kids or grandkids, or even stopped bending over or picking things up, all because of back pain, or the fear of a flare-up in pain. If back pain is stopping you from doing the things you love, then you are not alone.

Understanding back pain

Back pain is common and is influenced by a lot more than just structural injury or changes. Factors such as previous pain, work, activity levels, stress, sleep, and protective movement patterns can all contribute to how pain develops and persists.

These factors vary greatly between people, meaning that effective management needs to be deeply unique to each individual. Education, exercise, and increasing activity are key components of recovery, but they work best when tailored to the individual rather than applied as a one-size-fits-all approach.

This understanding guides how we assess and treat back pain.

How we approach back-pain rehab

We believe the lower back is resilient and with adequate rehab most people can regain strength and confidence in their back. Our role is to meet you where you are now, understand what’s contributing to your pain, and guide you through progressive rehab that builds resilience and confidence over time.

While the specifics of rehab will vary depending on your goals, our approach is always centred on helping you regain capacity, stay active where possible, and return to the activities that matter to you.

Our approach

  • Individualised assessment

We aim to understand the factors contributing to your back pain so your rehab is specific to you. This includes your injury history, activity levels, work and lifestyle demands and movement patterns

  • Tailored, goal-based rehabilitation

Your rehab plan is built around your goals. We focus on rebuilding strength, mobility, and resilience in a structured way, guiding you through each stage of rehab

  • Exercise and activity are key

General movement and exercise plays a key role in back pain recovery. We guide you to continue the activities you enjoy, whether that’s walking, swimming, running, or training in the gym

  • Hands on treatment as needed

Where helpful, we may use hands-on techniques such as manual therapy or dry needling to reduce pain and improve movement. These treatments are used to support your progress through rehab
